Today’s Chapters: Luke 7-11
Chapter 7:
This chapter begins with an interesting story of acCenturion. What has happened to make the centurion seek out Jesus? What did the servants say to Jesus when they met Him in verses 4 & 5? Did Jesus go with them? How did the approach Jesus in verse 6? What does this say about his character and his respect for Jesus? What does he ask Jesus to do? Why does he ask for only this (verse 8)? How does Jesus respond? What is significant about this declaration? How can we have this same kind of faith in our lives? What do you need to do to have this kind of faith?
Chapter 8:
Jesus tells the parable of the sower and soils here again as He did in Matthew 13. Put this parable into your own words? What does the parable mean? Did the disciples understand it? What did Jesus say the purpose of teaching in parables was? How can these parables have an impact on your life?
What other interesting and amazing things happen in the chapter? Why do you find them interesting and amazing?
Chapter 9:
The day after Jesus is transfigured a man cries out to Jesus. What does he ask for? Why does he ask this? How does Jesus respond? Did Jesus help him? How? What happened next?
Jesus then proclaims that He will be betrayed and will be killed. Why didn’t the discples understand this at the time?
Chapter 10:
When Jesus sends 70 of His followers out into the surrounding cities, how does He describe how He is sending them out (verse 3)? What instructions does He give them? Why does He tell them these things? What lessons can we learn from Jesus sending these followers out?
In verse 17, the 70 return. What is the state in which they returned? Why were they so joyful? What does Jesus tell them to be joyful about instead? Why is there greater joy in this rather then being able to command spirits? What do we find greater joy in – our salvation or our authority on earth?
How does this relate to what Jesus teaches about next – the good samaritan? What is the meaning of the parable? How can it be applied to your life?
Chapter 11:
When asked to teach the disciples how to pray, Christ gives them the model prayer. How does it go? What is the structure that you can see that makes it a model prayer? Since it is a “model” prayer, we can pray it exactly but we can also expound upon it. Describe how to do this. Put the prayer into your own words.
