Scripture Reading Challenge – Day 25

Today’s Chapters: Romans 4-8

Download: .doc | .pdf

Chapter 4:

How was Abraham justified?  How does verse 5 describe it?  What did David say about it?  What does it mean for us?
Since Abraham was not justified before God through his works, what does this mean for those who are not Jews and are not circumcised?  Can they be saved?  How?  When was Abraham’s faith accounted for righteousness?  Why is this important?
How was the promise that he would be heir of the world given – through the law or through faith?  Why is faith made void if those who are of the law are heirs of Abraham’s promise?  How does the promise given to all of Abraham’s descendants?  How did Abraham hope even though it was contrary to hope?  How old was Abraham when he received the promise that he would be the father of many nations?  (See Genesis 17:1-5)

Chapter 5:

How do we have peace with God?  Who is this peace through?  What else do we have through Him?  How can we rejoice and glory in tribulations?
Describe why is it so amazing that Christ died for us when we were still sinners and had no strength.
How did sin and death enter into the world?  Compare and contrast the example of Adam and the example of Christ: How are they similar?  How do they differ?  What is the end result of each?

Chapter 6:

Why shouldn’t we continue to sin so that God’s grace may abound more in our lives?  If we have been united in the likeness of Christ’s death, what does that mean about how we shall be united in His resurrection?  How many times does Paul say Jesus had to die for sin?  Why is this important?  How does Paul say we should live our lives?  What should we be dead to?  What should we be alive to?
In light of this, why shouldn’t we continue in our sin since we are covered by grace?  Who does a slave report to?  What does that say about when we follow sin?  What are we making of ourselves?  What does that make sin to us?  After we are saved, what do we become slaves to?  When we were slaves to sin, what fruit did we have?  Was this worthwhile?  Now that we are slaves to God, what is our fruit?  Are you producing this fruit in your life?
What is the result of sin?  What is the gift of God?  How does this apply to our lives?

Chapter 7:

How long does the law have dominion over you?  Why?  Why does it only have dominion over for that period of time?  What example of this does Paul give us?
How do you know what sin is?  What is the purpose of the law?  How does it accomplish this?
Can the law do about your sin?  Can it save you from your sin?  Why or why not?  Is there anything good or of value that dwells in our flesh?

Chapter 8:

Why is there no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus?  What is it that the law could not do (Look at chapter 7)?  What did God do to accomplish this?  What does Paul say is the result of living according to the flesh and having a carnal mind?
How are we made the sons of God?  What can we call God?  What is the significance of being heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ?  How should we live our lives in response to this fact?
With this in mind, how are we able to endure sufferings?  Will these sufferings compare with eternity with God?  Which is more worthwhile?  What does Paul say about God’s purpose and plan for us?  Why should this be an encouragement for us when we face suffering?
Why is it encouraging that God is for us?  What does that mean about our enemies?  If God didn’t even spare Jesus for our sakes, what does that mean about what He will continue to do for us?  Is there anything that can separate us from God and the love of Christ?  Why is this encouraging?  What are we more than through Christ?  Why is the importance of this?
When you face the trials and tribulations and suffering today, think back to the last two verses of chapter 8 and be reminded that Christ loves us and will do anything for our good.  Be encouraged today!
