Today’s Chapters: Mark 3-7

Chapter 3

In chapter 3 of Mark, Jesus selects His twelve disciples.  What reason does Mark give us for Jesus selecting disciples?  Who are the twelve?
Where did the Scribes claim that Jesus got His power?  What is the problem with this claim?  How does Jesus refute this claim?  Where does Jesus get His power from?  How does this relate to what we studied yesterday in Matthew 28?  How can this have an impact on our lives?
What other key points are found in this chapter?

Chapter 4

Jesus gives the parable of the soils in this chapter.  What are the soils?  What do they represent?  Why did He teach using parables?  Who did He explain it to?  What is the point of the parable?  How can this have an impact on our lives?
In verses 35-41, Jesus calms the stormy sea.  What does this show about Jesus’ power and authority over nature?.  Why is this an encouragement to us?

Chapter 5

This chapter starts off with the legion of demons being cast out of a man.  Summarize, in your own words, the details of the story.  What does this show about Jesus’ power and authority over the demons?  Why should this be an encouragement to us?
Why does Jairus ask Jesus to come with him?  What is Jesus’ response?  Does He have an uneventful trip?  What happened?  Did they make it to Jairus’ daughter in time?  What was the crowd at the house doing when they arrived?  Does that stop Jesus?  Who was with Jesus in the room?  Why?  How old was the daughter?  What was the reaction of the people when they saw her alive?  What does this say about Jesus’ power over death?  Why should this be an encouargement to us?  How can this impact our lives today?

Chapter 6

How did John the Baptist die?  What were the circumstances of his death?  Why did Herod fear John?
What happened when Jesus and His disciples landed at Gennesaret?  Why did this occur?  What did Jesus do there?  What does this say about people’s reaction to the amazing things that Jesus was doing?  What does this say about Jesus’ power and authority over disease and the human body?  Why should this be an encouragement to us?

Chapter 7

Where the Pharisees more concerned with what was right or what was tradition?  How do we see this in chapter 7?  When they posed the question to Jesus, how does He answer them?  How are we often like the Pharisees?  What do we do that makes us like them?  How can we change this?  What steps do you need to take to make this change?
