Today’s Chapters: II Samuel 11-15
Pete’s Thoughts:
II Samuel 11
This is one of the saddest chapters in the life of David. It all began when David was not where he should have been. He should have been leading his army into battle as was the season. It is amazing how one small decision can change your life forever.
II Samuel 12
Out of the death and sorrow of David’s sin comes the glimmering light of hope. God is so amazing that He can use even our sinfulness to bring Himself glory. Bathsheba bore David a second son – Solomon.
II Samuel 13
It is surprising how true the old saying, “Like father, like son”, really holds to be. Amnon say his father, David, sin and learned from him. Thus sin and sorrow grew in David’s family.
II Samuel 14
David may have forgiven Absalom and allowed him to return to Jerusalem but did he show it? In the course of two full years he did not go see his son. The sin may have been forgiven but the relationship was not healed, leading to more strife from bitter feelings.
II Samuel 15
David’s family was turning on him. Perhaps if he had restored the relationship with Absalom this would not have occurred. Perhaps if he had shown him what it meant to fall before the throne of grace and seek the face of the Lord after your sin this would not have happened.
