Today’s Chapters: I Kings 2-6
Pete’s Thoughts:
I Kings 2
David’s last instructions to Solomon begins with David telling him that he is mortal. It is good to be reminded that with everything that seems so important in our life, we are all going to “go the way of all the earth” one day and leave everything behind. With that in mind, how are you living your life?
I Kings 3
Solomon made a life changing decision in this chapter. When asked what he wanted from God, Solomon responded with “Wisdom”. Because of this response, he was blessed by God and is still know today as “the wisest man who ever lived”. Don’t forget what James tells us – if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God. If you want to be like Solomon, all you have to do is ask God for more wisdom. It may not come in the way you expected it, but we are told that God will give it.
I Kings 4
See how God is blessing the reign of Solomon. We have a lengthy inventory in this chapter. What does your inventory of blessings from God look like? I bet it’s just as long as this one.
I Kings 5-6
David was not allowed to build the temple, it was left to his son. Here we find Solomon making the plans and actually beginning to build the temple. This was a momentous occasion. Up until this time, the children of Israel had been worshiping God in a tent. Now they were building a house to worship in that was fitting for the Maker of all things.
