SRC: The Psalms – Day 24

Today’s Chapters: Psalms 116-120

Pete’s Thoughts:

Psalm 116:15

We often hear this verse quoted at funerals but have you ever stopped to consider that the Lord cares for each of His children and views their death as precious?  Jesus told us that God knows when even a sparrow falls.  How much more then, does He care for us, the ones He died for, when we die?

Psalm 117

It is wonderful to be able to express our praise to God with a simple two verse psalm.  Praise the Lord!  Some times you just need to say that and little more.  Just those simple words are enough to express your heart-felt rejoicing in God.

Psalm 118:22

This verse refers to Christ.  He was the stone rejected by men that has become the most important stone.  When building a house, the cornerstone was the stone that had the straightest corner and lines.  Every other line and angel of the house was set off from this one stone.  If you had a cornerstone that was not perfect the structure would not be sound.  What a great illustration of the Christian’s life: everything we do is based off of Christ as our cornerstone.  If it doesn’t fall in the correct line with Christ, we don’t do it.

Psalm 119

This is the longest chapter in the Bible.  What are some of the things you notice in this chapter that set it apart from every other chapter?  What is your favorite verse from this chapter?  Why?

Psalm 120:3-4

Look at the punishment that the psalmist wanted to give his tongue for lying.  It may seem pretty harsh until you remember the trouble that was caused the last time you lied.  As James tells us, our tongue opens us to a world of trouble and woe.  Make sure yours is under control!
