Today’s Chapters: II Samuel 21-I Kings 1
Pete’s Thoughts:
II Samuel 21
I don’t know if there was something in the water or just they were just healthy eaters but those Philistines sure could put out those giants. The most famous one being, of course, Goliath. In this chapter we read about four more, one of which even had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot.
II Samuel 22
David sings Psalm 18 in this chapter. What a great way to look at this song – see the words as specifically applied to the life of the author, David. God provided for and took care of David each step of the way.
II Samuel 23
Look at David’s mighty men. They were the top soldiers of their day, no one could stand against them. They had all done extraordinary deeds to be listed in this group. If we were to make a list like this of great Christians would your name be listed there? What are the great things you have done for Christ? How are you bringing Him glory with your life?
II Samuel 24
This book closes with David purchasing the threshing floor. This sets the ground work for his son, Solomon to build the Temple on this location. David made sure that he purchased the location and that it was not a gift. He wanted to make sure that it cost him something. Serving God costs a price.
I Kings 1
The events that led up to Solomon being anointed as the new king of Israel are very interesting. Some people claim that the Bible is out dated and antiquated. Yet this chapter relates events that are no different that many political situations across the world, even today. The Bible is always relevant and important to study.
